The ward was cold as Emmi walked into the area. She slowly walked toward Hammy’s room as the nurses on duty looked at her. She just came back from a drink in the hospital café with May May.

She looked at the window of the room from outside. Hammy was hugging Will’s arm tightly as she felt asleep. She could understand how a woman felt and wanted. Security and companionship.

She just stood there and walked back to the waiting lounge.


CHAPTER TEN


It has been a week after the incident. Finally, Hammy was discarded from the hospital and Will could spend some time with Emmi. It has been a tiring week as he spent most of his time to accompany Hammy.

As he opened the door of the condo, it was so quiet. It seemed Emmi has not come back from work. So he decided to cook something for her.

As he approached the fridge, there was a note stick on the door of the fridge.

- Will, we need to stop seeing each other any more. We are from two different worlds. I decided to move out. Please don’t look for me.

It was a blow for Will when receiving a note from Emmi. He rushed to Emmi’s room and found it was totally empty. He tried to call Emmi’s cell but it was out of service. Then he called May May to inquire about Emmi but even his cousin didn’t know about Emmi’s whereabouts.

It has been a few days; Will was roaming around to look for Emmi. Even Emmi’s parents were not aware of Emmi whereabouts. They have given Will some addresses to look for.


The Jonker streets were full of tourists as Will was wondering around the area. The old Peranakan – Chinese settlers to Malay Peninsular streets were full of shops. Some shop were selling souvenirs, clothing as well food. Most of the shops were hundred years old with chinese style architecture. The shops were long and usually with a center opened air courtyard and double storey. The UNESCO heritage area was next to the Malacca River across the Red Dutch District. Most of the time, the place were crowded with tourists, local and foreigners.


He was hoping that he could bump into Emmi. It was an hour ago, when Will dropped by Emmi’s cousin place in Malacca but her cousin have not seem Emmi for years.

The mid afternoon was hot. Finally Will decided to stop at one of the chicken rice shop for lunch. The Malacca steam chicken rice with rice balls were particularly famous here. Then he phone rang.


“Will… will…”

It was Meston, his sous chef.

“What is going on?” he asked.

“Your parents called you and can’t get you…”

“I need my alone time…”

“It has been 5 days and the Amazing Group is in trouble. Your parents were trying to get you… as well as many company senior directors,” Meston said.


“Mmmmh.”

“Yes… that is why they asked us to look for you. You better come back.”

“How about May May, did she look for me?”

“That is the problem; she was missing as well.”

“What do you mean missing?”

“She has disappeared too after you left KL.”

“What?”

“Okay…okay, I am coming back.”

“Oh, one more thing, please help me to look for Jimmy as well.”

“Urghhh… Jimmy was arrested for fraudulent and corruption case few days ago.”

“Okay… I will rush back.”

The company meeting room was full of senior managers and directors as Will walked in. It was late evening as he reached the Amazing Group tower.

There was a silent in the room as everyone was looking at Will. Jeff and Lily rushed to Will. Will looked around the room and Hammy was in the room as well. She stood up and walked to Will.

“There is a crisis in the company.”

“Hammy can you brief me?” Will asked.

Hammy just nodded.

“Dad, I can’t give you anything at this moment. I need more information. I also need time, at the moment do what you needed to do.”

Jeff nodded.

Will followed Hammy back to her room. The twenty fifth floor was half empty as many of the staffs already went home.

“Hammy, how is your injuries?” Will asked.

“Much better already. I am glad you came back.”

“Where is May May?”

“She left and no one knows where she is. Now I need to handle all her stuff.”

Will nodded.

“Glad you are here. Did you know about Jimmy?”

She nodded as she turned on the lights of her room. Will was looking at the window that overlook of the view of Maybank Tower. He used to stare at the view from this room that was once his.

Then he sat down as Hammy passed some of the files to him.

“This is the company has declared take over of a few of our subsidiaries a few days ago. The price of stock was down about 15-20% for the past three days. Further one of the company management started to strike on us.”

Will just nodded.

“I know that you have been investigating about these companies about Jimmy. I hope you have something that could solve this issue.”

Will kept quiet and kept studying the files Hammy passed to him.

“Hammy, before I came here, I went home to gather the finding I had done but it was all gone. It was not a coincidence Emmi and May May disappearance.”

“Huh.”

“I know someone might able to help us.”

“But how about the crisis?”

“Let it takes its course.”

CHAPTER ELEVEN


The MACC building was cold as Will and Hammy walked into the waiting lounge. Jimmy was held custody there for investigation.

“You sure he will help you?” Hammy asked.

“Yes.”

She looked puzzled. The officer has directed Will and Hammy to wait at the area. Will looked at the time; it was 10am in the morning. With the connection of his father, the MACC allowed Will to meet with Jimmy. Yet, Hammy was very skeptic about the meeting since she had a brief relationship with Jimmy.

Then an officer has escorted Jimmy into the waiting lounge. He looked tired and his hair was uncombed.

“I though it was you who wanted to see me, cousin.”

“Hi.”

“Why did you came Hammy… we are done.”

“Wait, I brought her here to witness the truth.”

“What did you want? She is the one who reported me and passed all the documents to MACC.”

“I believe you knew about the current situation.”

He laughed and laughed.

“You already lost. What else you could do….Emmi was a lie; she was hired to spy on you and cheat on your love. You are so mess-up and the diversion, the trap and the plan was to take back what belong to us.”


He walked out of the room and continued to laugh.

Hammy looked Will with her puzzled look.

“I suspected.”

“What?”

“May May and Emmi have been toying with me from the beginning.”

Hammy looked at Will and started to sob. The room left with both of them as Hammy continued to sob. Will kept quiet as he was emotional scar.

“I am sorry Will.”

“Tell me what had happened?”

“While I was in the hospital, Emmi came to visit me and I begged her forgo her love with you and let me have you. I was desperate.”

“What?”

“I am sorry… I didn’t expect her to agree with my request. Then she disappeared.”

Will kept silent for awhile “I think now it is not the time.”

An emergency board meeting was held on the following day. The stocks for the group have dropped below the actual value of the company. There were buying and selling which resolved many new ownership of the company.

Will is one of the major shareholders and a member of the board. Therefore he was needed to be in the meeting. For the past two days, he couldn’t take any actions and let those events unfolded.

Will sat beside Jeff and Lily while waiting for the members of the board to arrive. There were many worried faces.

“It is okay… as all these were over, we can actually retired,” Jeff whispered to Lily.

“Yes… we don’t need so much money. We can start a simple life again.”

“Ssssuuuhhh, you two still have me.”

His parents smiled at him.

“At least, I still have a restaurant,” Will joked.

The room was almost full of the board members. Then the sound of elevator dinned, it followed by a group of executives walked into the room. It was May May that leading the group.

She walked into the middle of the room and announced.

“Today, I will be joining the board members meeting and as at today, I am the major shareholder of the group.”

Some members were mumbling and some looked among each other wondering what had happened. Soon, May May’s lawyer passed the documents to the members and explaining the situation of the group.

Jeff and Lily were angry and stared at their niece.

Will just nodded.

May May walked toward Will and whispered next to his ear.

“Look helpless cousin. So your housemate was a trap and Emmi did a good job according to my plan. She made sure you put all your attention to her, she was so convincing that I almost believed that she had fallen for you.”

Will still looked calm.

The meeting went on for another 15 minutes before Hammy barged into the room. Behind her were some MACC officers as well as a few KLSE officials.

The MACC officers had issued a warrant to arrest May May for her wrongdoing and plot with Jimmy to cheat KLSE. The officials then announced that all transaction related to May May were invalid and been freeze immediately.

May May looked at Will before she shouted at him.

“My plan was so clean, how did you get the evidence to against me?”

Will walked next to her and whispered “I didn’t. She did.”

He pointed at Hammy. Hammy just smiled as May May was escorted out of the room.

“Will, doing nothing was such a brilliant idea,” Hammy commented.

Will looked at Hammy and smiled.

“I didn’t do much; you have done a good job collaborating with the MACC officers.”

CHAPTER TWELVE


Chinese New Year, the Wong’s residence was packed with relatives on the first day of spring festival. The place was decorated with flowers pots around the garden and pool area.

The indoor was full of red and gold decorations.

Will was also busy catching up with family and friends. However, this year May May and Jimmy were not celebrating with them. There was buffet served during lunch and Will was having great time with his parents.

As the afternoon passed, many guests have left. Will was sitting at the garden pavilion enjoying the evening. He recalled back yesterday reunion dinner with his parents. Like every lunar New Year eve, three of them will have their dinner in the big house. He has decided to visit Emmi’s parents during this festive season. His parents were supportive on his decision as he tried to hide his loneliness and betrayal feeling of Emmi.

“Hi…”

Will turned as Hammy sat next to him. She looked pretty like usual and she was wearing a pink cheongsam that reviewed her slim figure.

“Hi…”

“What are you thinking?”

“Nothing… just about the past year.”

“Emmi izzit?”

Will kept quiet but he managed to smile at Hammy.

“Will, I need to finish what I said during the time we were at MACC office.”

“Ok… whatever you happened is already passed.”

“Before Emmi left the hospital, she left me a message or some sought of advices. She told me that:

You are like a big kid … don’t care what people said about you but like people to listen to your grumbles.

You always shy around people so ask me to be more initiatives….

You like to cook for people and always need praising for your food….

You like to people to be honest with you…

You like to watch movies and asked me accompany you more to watch movies….

When you are alone like now… you need someone to talk to ….

She also mentioned what you like and what you don’t.

She requested me to take care of you since she won’t be around beside you anymore. She also knew once you learned about the truth, no matter what you felt and did she will still understand.”

The tears started to drip from Will’s eyes. He looked at Hammy and Hammy slowly continued.

“On that day we left MACC office, I received a courier package from Emmi. It was all the documents and evidences of May May’s wrong doings.”

Hammy patted on Will shoulder.

“Looking at you now, I knew Emmi and you really cared for each other. Go and search the whole world if you have to… to find your other half.”

“Thanks Hammy.”





































Epilogue


The smell of the coffee brewing from the back of the coffee shop was aromatic. The toast butter kaya bread was placed on the table with half boiled eggs.

Will was admiring the patrons chatting in the coffee shop and greeting each other Happy Chinese New Year. It was the fourth day of Chinese New Year and some of the shops had opened for operation like this one in the middle of Chukai town.

It was a festive atmosphere in this town as many has came back home to celebrate the new year with their families.

Will had finished his breakfast and heading to Emmi’s parent store. Her parents had a convenience store across the Mak Nik beach. There were several other stores at the area. Will stood in front of the store as it was his first time meeting Emmi’s parents.

The thin lady at the counter looked at Will.

“Hi… Gong Xi Fatt Chai” Will greeted.

“You must be Will…” she smiled at him.

“Auntie, where is uncle?”

“Oh… he is at the mamak store at end of the row.”

“Here is something I brought for you,” Will handed Mrs. Nee a bag of gifts.

“No need to be so much trouble. Anyway, go and join uncle at the mamak store.”

He nodded and left the store.

As he walked toward the end of the row of shops, he noticed a familiar vehicle parked in front of the mamak store. Indeed, it was his dad’s Bentley.

Then he could hear laughter from the store. Jeff and Lily were having tea with another man. The man was a little plump in size and as he approached the table, they waved at him.

“Come… sit.”

“Dad, how come you are here?”

“Yes… uncle invited us for dinner here tonight.”

“Gong Xi Fatt Chai… uncle.”

“Will, come and sit down. Yes… when you called yesterday and called you parents to come as well, to celebrate New Year with us.”

“Anyway… it is a reunion dinner. But we will let you stroll around the beach. Then both of you can come back for lunch later,” Lily added.

Immediately, Will knew what his mom meant and rushed across the street to the beach.

The waves sound from the South China Sea was pleasant as he walked and search for someone he wanted to see. There were children playing at the beach and further in the water there were several fishing boats.


Then he came to the rocks piles that stretched out to the water. He walked along the rocks as he saw the familiar figure playing with a few children. The small size girl with short hair was wearing a white t-shirt and denim short. He stood behind her and blew her hair.

She turned and looked at Will before she hit his arm lightly.

“Ahyoh… still have the same habit,” Will commented.

“Not going to change as long there is someone allowed me to do that.”

“Forever, it will be.”

Emmi smiled at him. Before she could reply him, Will already grabbed her and hugged her tightly.

“I really like that…” she said.

“Don’t leave me all alone anymore.”

“Dear… I am sorry. I am so confused at that time but my heart led me to do what is right. Then it took me awhile before I realized I really missed you so I came home.”

Emmi was sobbing as she laid her head on Will’s shoulder.

“Shhhh… it is okay. What had happened was passed … we will started all over again. I don’t want my little piggy girl to cry.”

He kissed her.

The wind from the sea blew at the couple as they broke their kisses. Will held Emmi hands and she was hugging him.

“I think it is lunch time already. We better go back and have lunch with our parents and discuss the future event.”

“What event?” Emmi asked.

“Our wedding of course.”

She beat him lightly.

“Who said there will be a wedding?”

“So you don’t want to get marry..?”
“Of course, I want… you can’t take it back. I am going to be your wife.”
