Hi Need some help here. I can interpret simple vietnamese but these time my Ban Gai send me something that I can't really understand.

I have actually informed her that I would buy her something else other than what she asked me to buy. She then replied with the following:

Dung roi a ah, nhung mui do tham lam. (this part i don't understand)
nhung a muon mua mui do hay mui khac cung dc a ah. (this one should be if I want to buy this item or another item it is also ok)

That's right bro (honey), those "mui" very "tham" - not sure what "mui" and "tham" mean without the accent marks.

I guess she is asking u o buy perfume for her... mù=perfume... i guess not tham but thơm, thơm=frangance...

Vietnamese is a tonal language like chinese.

Which mean if I ask for english translation for "shi"..without indicating the tone or giving the whole sentence, there is 4 possible meanings to "shi"

The vietnam language has even more tones. But even if you include it here, unless the bros here went through proper vn education, starting from the "abc" in vn, we wouldn't be able to tell or pronounce either. So it's easier for us to translate if you include the whole sentence rather then single words. Of course for those commonly used, we can roughly guess.

I totally agreed. Even u include the whole sentence, sometime also cant "catch the ball". The best is you tell us the context of the conversation/sms.... For ppl starting the basic, did u visit the site :

Quoting an example for u:

dựa | dứa | dừa | dưa | đua | đùa | đũa | đưa | đứa

dứa =Pineapple
dừa = coconut
dưa =Melon; salted vegetables

See that above refer to same kind of item, FRUITs, but which is the exact one depend on the actual word used
