Re: What is your (future)burden in life?
I like what bro IK has mentioned. Very meaningful. TS, my burden, instead of describing him as a burden, I prefer to him my hindering opponent.
He thinks too much in occasions that he shouldn't be, and he is the sole reason why I am not flying higher than I should be. This opponent... is me. It is commonly said that the sky is the limit. I disagree. My will is my limit. |

Re: What is your (future)burden in life?
well, i'm almost in the same position as TS...
i'm 30yrs old now. however, i still holds a job that is 1.9k pm. my parents are getting old, and i know, there savings are not alot. i sometimes felt very pressured becos, me, being the youngest male son, is sorted of being tasked to take care of my parents. my studies are not very good. although i finished poly, however, my results are so bad that few would hire me. till this day, i really regreted not studying well. but, i started to have faith again when i take up a part time degree in banking. now, i almost going to graduate, i was hit by a big rock. i applied many ads to go for entry level jobs, many turned me down, saying i don't have prior experience working in the financial line. i was like, WTF, if every job wants people with experience, then how did those people currently in this line gets their job in the first place? everyone started without experience. i felt so sad and unfair. i mean, people have to start out somewhere, but i was not even given a chance to step into the industry. recruiters keep saying i should stick to my current job scope (i'm in tech line), but how much can a technician earns? i just want to earn something more, i mean, how can a person with 1.9k(exclude CPF) support both parents, housing bills etc?? i have a steady gf and i'm also intending to get married. but all is lost... the worst thing and i considered the stupidest thing i had done is to gamble due to the lure of fast money. and yes, i had lose. in fact, i lose all of my savings from working part time in the past till now. i really regret it. i really do wish i can go back to poly days and really study hard. but now, i can only blame myself... |

though i'm studying a part-time finance degree now, technically i never really thought of entering the finance industry even if i have, i'm sure they are not that willing to pay the market rate for freshies. why is that so ? as a finance student, i'm sure you study economics before and know that sg is an open economy. if you read around the forums recently, the finance industry is slowly getting low-ball by FTs or positions are getting filled by them. if i were you, i rather stick with a job that pays me well than enter into a new trade with a lower pay. if the situation in the family is bad, having a better-paying job is still more well off than doing a job of your interest and getting lower pay for it. sg is a very realistic place, bread still overwrites love nowadays. |

Re: What is your (future)burden in life?
You are still young. You will eventually realise with age and maturity that health, family and friends are most important. We live in times of great opportunities and abundance. It's up to the individual to grab those opportunities.
My first job was a waiter. I worked throughout uni, completing an accounting degree. Started at a mnc for 1.8k. Worked hard and 17 years later, I'm an ED on 18k. I don't live an extravagant lifestyle so that's more than I need eventhough my wife does not work. Nothing gives me more satisfaction and pride than to give money to my parents and parents-in-law. It's a tiny return for all they have done for me. Keep your chin up, work hard and things will work out. |

Re: What is your (future)burden in life?
As long as you're alive and determined to fix your problem, there's actually no problem.
As long as you're alive and do nothing but bitch about your problems, trust me, you got a big problem!

screw the SAF lah, just serve the NSF and fark off from it. In life as long u work hard, everything will fall into space. Like some bros said, be contended and you will be happy. when i Orded, i was jobless for almost a yr as the economy just recovering from the 97 crisis. most of my friends headed overseas for uni while i stuck here. So they lucky to have parents who can afford to pay for their uni education while my parents dont. in fact i had to work part time during poly to paid for poly fees as my parents just making enough to live only. i dont blame my parents, just that my life is meant to be this way. Till now, i think i the only one without a (be it full time or part time) degree education among friends. No big deal, nothing to be ashame about. If your friends look down on you because of that, you better review your your so call friends are really friends. compare me to my cousin, sure he earning more than me at the moment but i basically debt free. the only debt i have is the HDB loan which i will repay in 5years time while my cousin still have another 27 years to run and car repayment instalments too. So, dont think by "owning" a big house and a car mean good life. The so call good life is a burden my friend.

in sg, is best to stick with what you can afford. with proper financial budgeting, one can still live within his limits. |

Re: What is your (future)burden in life?
Agree with bros here who say live within your means. I remember when I worked as a waiter, I could go out with gf makan, movies, clubbing, etc. Every dollar I get, I spend. Now I earn a ton more but got no time to go out and have wife and three kids to support, mortgage on house, school fees, etc. I was just as happy driving a rusty old Corolla then and now driving a nice car.
