You register in the SG Embassy not the Registry of Death or Birth of that country you are in! The difference is there!

There should be an Embassy as long as the country has diplomatic ties with SG.

You said " Register in that Country" therefore I presumed that you meant that country.

Why don't you get the real expert advice on this matter?

Pay a visit to immigration and NRO and they'll give you the 100% correct information.

BTW, once you get it, you can then post here for all of us to know.

Not really lah, Immigration Act has nothing much to do with the Force lah. I know bcos my wife is a foreigner and that my first kid is also born aboard. I went through the procedure a couple of years ago.

As far as I know, the SG embassy does not issue you birth certficates, only the Registry of birth of deaths of the country does that. This information was provided by the SG embassy in Thailand when I approached them when my son was born.

the SG embassy CANNOT issue a passport if the child does not have a name and the child cannot have a name if his birth is not registered. You cannot go to the SG embassy with a new born baby and says this baby is yours.

Registering the birth of a child in a foreign country only means that the child was born. It does not necessarily mean that the child is a citizen of that particular country. Although some countries will grant the child (normally male) automatic citizenship.

Just like many foreigners who want to have their children born in a SG hospital because of the confidence in our medical facilities. Being born here does not automatically make them SG citizens.

For a Singaporean Father, once the child is born and has the birth certificate, he can go to the SG embassy to informed them and have the citizenship procedures done. It doesn't matter if it states on the birth certificate that the child is granted the foreign citizenship as once the child reaches legal age, he/she can decide which country of citizenship he/she wants.

Then again, I believe different SG embassies, because of different people running them, probably will give you different variations. the best is still to go to immigration to get the correct answers.

My 2 cents worth.

When my first child was born, I registered her with our embassy in HK. They did some interview and my child was issued a SG Passport within 1 week from them.

Maybe me & my CO had registered our marriage in SG's ROM much earlier and that at that time, I was still a civil servant had help.

Sorry ThreadStarter for something that is off topic to your thread.

Now I heard that it is getting worse! I heard that nowadays there are no permanent service and all are only offered contract service. And if you are not in the upper percentage of performing officers, you will be asked to resign! First they take away the pension scheme, then the direct entry to NCO scheme, etc. and now this!! It damn FT now. They always take care of those new birds and all those Old Birds like us, they can't be bothered!

Yes! my CO is from HK. She is from Tsuen Wan. Met her when I was stationed at Airport when attached there via our other "HQ"!

Bro, as far as I know, if your kid is born outside of SGP, in scenario like overseas attachement, those personnel bringing their foreign spouse there. Iif their child is born, the parents can return back to SPG to endorse using their child's birth cert. This will grant the baby citizenship.

In my opinion better get it done in SPG although there's no restriction in this.

Sorie arh CP, just to highlight abit, when my wife has given the LTSVP (Long term social visit pass), by the ICA, she was given a letter from MOM saying she is allowed to work if her employer helped her to apply for the WP and the levy etc. Need no go to MOM for permission.

I didn't know about that! All ICA told me was that she can't work while holding a LTSVP.

Anyway, she is already a PR liao so can work now!
