How much do you understand from the statements below?

Eligibility
The following categories of person are eligible to apply for Singapore Citizenship:

Person who is at least 21 years of age and has been a Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR) for at least 2 to 6 years prior to the date of application. Applicant who wishes to apply under his/her own merits may come for a preliminary assessment interview after 1 year of permanent residence.
SPR who has satisfactorily completed full-time National Service (NS).
Spouse of Singapore Citizen with a minimum of 2-year SPR and married for at least 2 years preceding the date of application.
Minor born outside Singapore but is residing permanently in Singapore, and whose parents are Singapore Citizens.
Child born outside Singapore whose parent is a Singapore citizen.

An overseas-born minor (child) may be eligible for Singapore Citizenship by Descent under Article 122(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore, if any of the following conditions can be met:

a) Male Singapore citizen by Birth who has a lawful marriage at time of minor's birth;

b) Male Singapore citizen by Registration who has a lawful marriage at time of minor's' birth and minor shall not acquire citizenship of the country he was born by reason of his birth in that country;

Does that mean if i had a baby in overseas but does not register the baby in that foreign country. The kid is qualify to be Singaporean? Thanks.

Re: How much do you understand from the statements below?

It is stated that as long as you are legally married at that time to the woman and as a result of the marriage, give birth, the child is able to register for a SG Citizenship. It also mean that the child cannot take up dual citizenships and the child must denounce his/her present citizenship of the country that he/she was borned in. You must of cos be a Singaporean in the first place.

You must also inform Singapore ROM of your marriage to a foreigner. If she was a former Work Permit Holder, you need to apply for permission at Minitry of Manpower first before going to ROM.

She will probably be granted a long term dependant pass of 1 year. During that time, you can apply for PR status for her. She would not be granted citizenship immediately.

Yes it is to be on the safer side! If your future wife just to work in SG and hold a Work Permit, you have to go to Ministry of Labour to apply for permission first before going to ROM.

On applying for PR Status, it will depend on a few factor, your income, any criminal records on both parties, whether you have been paying your taxes, both your edcuational levels....etc.

I went thru the same thing as my CO is also a foreigner!

Hmmm...That will be very tricky. Imagine your new born baby is required to register in S'pore within the first year he was bored + she is not yet offically registered with you. Sure hell lot of processing to do.

All you have to do is to inform SG Embassy there if the child is not born in SG.

My first child was born in HK and she is a SG Citizen now!

Well! It got everything to do with it. When you get married, you have sex, when you have sex, you have a baby!

Btw...what has it got to do with you in the first place? If you don't like to read this thread, you can always don't click on this thread.

Once you have informed our SG Embassy there, and once it is approved, the child would be granted a SG Passport from the Embassy itself!
