For that, you have a certain Mr Houllier to blame ... Pongolle & Le Tallac (another pair of cousins apparently, though one black & one white) were once the greatest French prospects at age-group level but after getting them in, he just did not have the thing in him to nurture them to greater heights ... his only way of that was to loan them out to the cellar teams in the French league, even when they did well there, they couldn't take the hustle & bustle of the English game. On the contrary, Rafa more than welcome his young second-stringers to go out on loan ... but to the Championship sides, where life is almost without flair but just hustle & bustle.
