My colleagues and I were finalizing the list of candidates when I was told that the wife of one of our candidates was on the phone asking to speak to me. When I answered, she begged me not to let her husband run for office. When I tried to persuade her otherwise, she started to cry uncontrollably, screaming between sobs that they had a family to look after. Before she hung up, she threatened to jump off the apartment and take their children with her if her husband went ahead with the elections.
