The window period you refer to is the period whereby there are insufficient antibodies in the blood to be detected by current HIV tests methods.
However, even beyond the window period, an HIV positive person can remain symptom free for many years before finally developing AIDS. An HIV positive person looks perfectly healthy. There is no way any sexual partner would know about the infection unless a blood test was performed.
