Of course...... my cousin got retrenched in Taiwan couple of years ago and return to SG.
While looking for another career, he chanced upon a bubble tea stall in a neighbourhood mall whose owner was looking to sell off the business. My cousin observed and saw that the owner was running the bubble tea stall all wrong. My cousin was familiar with the bubble tea business as he has friends running them while he was in Taiwan. He bought over the stall and reorganised it. He recouped his investment within 3 months and has been profitable every month since.... and has opened another 2 branches too.

Bubble tea is a good profitable business if properly managed.

A friend borrowed 50K from me few years ago as his son wanted to start a bubble tea shop with some friends. He had just graduated from NTU but did not want a 9-5 office job even though he did his internship with one of the Big5 banks and wanted to try his hands at doing some business. I loaned my friend the cash and was pleasantly surprised when he returned me the loan 5 months later. His son's bubble tea business was so profitable beyond expectations. Last year I met their family and the son was still doing good in the bubble tea business.... driving a $200K continental car and bought his own condo.

I am going to retire soon.

Maybe I should give selling bubble tea a try after retirement.

It's his own hard earned money. I don't know why would anyone begrudge him spending it as he wishes. At least he's not splurging it away on wine, women & song or at the casinos.

We should be happy that a potential entreprenuer is born amongst us and not be jealous of his success.

Why must we expect gratitide or benefits whenever we help a friend out? I never had any such inclinations..... in fact I was prepared to write off the loan when I gave it to him as I understood there is always a risk of his son not making it. I know from my own experiences dabbling in several businesses that not every business can succeed.
Since I have some spare cash in hand I dun mind to help someone whom I regard as a FRIEND..... without any strings attached.
