Drunk Indonesian pilot tries to fly plane with 154 passengers

An Indonesian pilot has been suspended after allegedly showing up for work drunk before trying to fly a plane with 154 passengers onboard.

Video has emerged purportedly showing Capt. Tekad Purna, a pilot for Indonesian low-cost airline Citilink, stumbling and repeatedly dropping his belongings as he went through security at Surabaya airport on Wednesday morning.

As the pilot arrives at the checkpoint wearing dark sunglasses, he drops his hat on the floor, then dumps his bag on the conveyor belt before walking through the body scanner.

As he goes to collect his bag, it tips upside down and his belongings fall on the floor.

One of the three security workers at the checkpoint helps pick up his things and put them back in the pilot’s bag while he holds his sunglasses in his mouth.

The pilot waves and goes to leave but then his glasses fall on the floor and appear to break. Another security worker collects the pieces and hands them back to the pilot before he is free to leave.

The pilot is believed to have made it as far as the cockpit before he was replaced by another captain when many passengers staged a walk off, the Jakarta Post reports.

The travellers were reportedly alerted to his alleged state of intoxication when he made an incoherent flight announcement while preparing for take off.

A passenger has posted a video of the alleged incoherent announcement online which shows people onboard the plane looking confused.

The 1 hour 20 minute flight was due to take off from Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, East Java, and was bound for Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Jakarta.

Citilink’s President Director Albert Burhan said, in a statement on Thursday evening: ‘Citilink is very serious about handling this matter. The pilot in question has been suspended until the ongoing investigation is completed.’

The airline confirmed he had appeared ‘physically unfit’ but the final results of a medical check will be issued in a week.

Prosecutors in Bali demand 13-year sentence for Singaporean techno DJ over cocaine smuggling via postal service

Bali prosecutors are demanding a 13-year prison sentence for a Singaporean techno DJ on trial over trying to smuggle cocaine through postal service.

In addition to the jail time, prosecutors are also pushing for a fine of Rp 1 billion (or six extra months) for 32-year-old Muhammad Faliq Bin Nordin.

“The defendant is legitimately and convincingly guilty of committing an offense in violation of the law with a class I drug over five grams,” prosecutor Dewa Gede Ngurah Sastradi said in Denpasar District Court on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara Bali.

Prosecutors say the Singaporean deserves a heavy punishment because his actions were contrary to intensified efforts by the government to eradicate drug abuse in Bali.

In his trial, it was revealed that Nordin took two parcels from the Netherlands on September 10, 2016 from a post office in Renon, Denpasar. The recipient had actually been marked as Kobu Raum Dekodex, with an address in Sanur. Both packages had different senders, but both from the Netherlands.

Nordin came to the post office with a letter indicating that Kobu Raum gave him permission to pick-up the package, Bali customs told reporters after the Singaporean’s arrest.

Raum had apparently been working as a DJ in Bali several months prior to his arrest. Spinning under the name FAL:X, the DJ is attached to renowned techno labels such as Italo Business and Cobb Recordings, and has played in Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines aside from regular stints in a number of clubs back in his home country.

Most nightlife establishment to close throughout Ramadan and Eid in Jakarta: official

The holy fasting month of Ramadan is expected to begin on May 27, and with it, the expected closure of many of Jakarta’s nightlife establishments.

Speaking to Kompas, Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency secretary Jeje Nujarman announced that the city government would close night clubs (or “diskoteks” as the old-fashioned local media still call them), spas, massage parlors, and bars throughout Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

“Mandatory closure from one day before Ramadan, during the month of Ramadan, during Eid a-Fitr, and one day after Eid al-Fitr,” Jeje told Kompas today.

The argument used to justify the closures, as it has always been every year, is to respect and not disturb Muslims from focusing on worship during the holy month.

However, there are a few exceptions. “Diskoteks” inside hotels rated 4-stars or more and which are located in a commercial area far away from houses, mosques, schools, and hospitals, may remain open.

Others, such as karaoke joints and bars with live music and/or pool tables will have their operating hours limited to 8:30pm – 1:30am.

Displays of eroticism or sensuality are still prohibited in places that remain open under the agency’s regulation, which explains why Hooters Jakarta has promised that their servers will dress more modestly (no orange short shorts) during Ramadan.

The regulation was approved by the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency head on May 16.

Indonesian police arrest 141 men including one Briton for holding a Gay sex party

Indonesian police have arrested dozens of men accused of holding a "gay sex party" at a gym and sauna in the capital Jakarta.

Officers raided a venue called Atlantis in the late hours of Sunday and halted an event they dubbed "The Wild One", arresting 141 men including one Briton and one Singaporean.

While homosexuality is legal everywhere in Indonesia except conservative Aech province, which is ruled by Sharia law, police said up to 10 men could be charged under the country"s harsh pornography laws.

The arrests mark the country's latest crackdown on the LGBT community after a similar raid in Surabaya, the second largest city, earlier this month.

A 20-year-old and his 23-year-old partner were also sentenced to 85 lashes each for having gay sex in Aech province after being found in bed together back in March.

Speaking about the latest raid, a police spokesman said: "Our officers did an undercover investigation and raided the place on Sunday."

Pictures circulating online showed topless men sitting crammed in a room next to gym equipment after the police raid.

The men facing charges include the alleged organisers of the event as well as men suspected of being prostitutes and striptease dancers.

Those found guilty of breaking the laws face up to 10 years in jail.

The other detained men are still being questioned by police as potential witnesses in the case, the detective said.

Since last year, ministers, hardliners and influential Islamic groups in Indonesia have been lining up to publicly denounce homosexuality.

The arrests come after a similar raid in Indonesia's second city of Surabaya earlier this month, in which 14 men were arrested over another "gay party" and forced to take HIV tests

Two men in Aceh province, which incorporates Sharia into its legal system, were sentenced to 85 lashes each earlier this month after a vigilante group caught them having gay sex
