in such cases, I will not join the girl, especially when she is with another GF. quite dangerous, since you don't know whether that GF know any of your friends

I will usually tell her that I would love to join her but I had a long day at work, pretty tired, so I head home.

and see her reaction....in most cases, I will end with a suggestion to meet up for Dinner some other day.

that aside... DUDE...her reaction was "I know... how?" THAT was a BIG BIG BIG indication that she wants you to rescue her. hidden message was: "Come up with some lame excuse, so that I can be with you ALONE."

at that moment, you could have phoned her and started a simple Q&A conversation like:
"where are you?"
"Finished work liao mah?"
"don't forget our dinner later at XXXX place..."

and i am sure she would be more than delighted to play along with you...

but since that night you had to leave the place early... use this opportunity to offer to treat her to an "apology dinner" or something like that... sound apologetic and want to make up for that night...
